It is recommended that the eligibility requirements for presidential candidates and the provisions on restitution of candidacy rights be reviewed and amended to bring them in line with international obligations and good electoral practice. In addition, consideration could be given to amending the current provision requiring nominees to have support from members of parliament to broaden the opportunity for independent candidates to contest presidential elections.
