To safeguard the contestants’ right to an effective remedy, legal provisions should be revised to ensure that sanctions with an irreversible effect on the exercise of political rights, including the right to be elected, are applied only when time allows for effective legal remedies or that their enforcement is suspended until the opportunity for appeal is exhausted.
